In the Enterprise Search team, Website testers are
responsible for testing and monitoring websites and web applications on
multiple desktops, laptops, and mobile devices by applying quality-assurance
methods. They must be detail-oriented, possess programming skills, and have a
commitment to accuracy. Because they are tasked with increasing user
satisfaction, they must ensure that the final product meets client
expectations.
Duties and Responsibilities
Testing
Under the umbrella of the core task of testing, website testers have a variety
of duties, such as designing test scenarios for automation, implementing test
scripts utilizing automated test tools, and performing various types of testing
including functional, system integration, regression, and exploratory –
automated as well as manually.
Performing Root Cause Analysis
One of the responsibilities of a website tester is to ensure that end-users are
happy. Therefore, they must determine the when, where, and why of each
production defect or problem at its source. This may involve determining a
primary cause or a series of interrelated causes.
Generating Reports and Recommendations
A website tester must generate reports that accurately detail defects found
during testing and offer recommendations for improving existing processes and
implementing new tools based on test results.
Collaborating
A large part of a website tester’s job is to collaborate with developers about
any bugs, defects, or issues found. Both the website tester and the developers
will work to ensure that bugs are resolved so that website quality will exceed
defined standards. Additionally, testers collaborate with developers in areas
such as code and design reviews.
Skills And Qualifications
- Technical skills – candidates understand software architectural concepts and workflows, know HTML, JavaScript, C# have a good understanding of the React Framework / experience with single page applications and can create technical documentation applicable to different software frameworks
- Analytical skills – ability to tracking and identifying bugs and defects, as well as analyzing data related to software testing. Able to build a good understanding of complex relationships within a given software product.
- Problem-solving skills – ability to troubleshoot any problems and devise methods to solve them
- Quality assurance methodology skills – application of the QA methodology to deliver the best results
- Interpersonal skills – Ability to communicate well verbally and in written form (English language)
- Time management skills – once goals and expectations are set, website testing needs to take place in an efficient manner.
- Software development frameworks (Scrum, Agile Sprint based approach)
- Programming languages (Gherkin, C#, JavaScript, XML, HTML, CSS, React)
- Web browser debugging tools (Chrome Debug tools)
- Defect management tools (MS DevOps, Visual Studio Code)
